Case study

Farewell, trusted hot stamping machines

Industry: Extrusion technology

Application: Coding and marking of extrusion products

Material: Wire (bowden cables), pipes, tubes

Client

The Binder + Wöhrle GmbH & Co. KG is one of the leading manufac-turers of plastic pipes, profiles and bowden cables, which are used in cars, among other products. In the three-shift operation in Hausach near Offenburg, Germany, 60 employees process more than 800 tons of wire per year. The company, founded in 1949, achieves a yearly turnover of over eight million euros and counts well-known companies such as VW among its customers.

Requirements

Increasing legal regulations on product identification made marking with a hot stamping machine econo-mically unviable. In the future, it would have to be possible to change the typeface more quickly, the marking would need to contain more lines and product changes would have to be made possible more quickly. The client was unhappy with the fact that the hot stamping ma-chine with the pre-heated embos-sing marks with plastic film had to come into contact with the product for marking.

Solution

With the LEIBINGER JET3up, Binder + Wöhrle can change marking imprints within seconds on the user-friendly touch display. The product marking takes place contact-free during extrusion at theoretical speeds of up to 600 m/min. Today, 13 LEIBINGER printers are used in production at Binder + Wöhrle. Reliability, customer proxi-mity, operating costs and reliability played a key role in the company’s purchase decision.
